Sink The BNP!

Nazi leader of the BNP has once again shown his and the BNPs true nature, racist and fascist.
Today he stated that he would support a policy of sinking the boats carrying desperate people trying to reach Southern Europe from North Africa. When pressed on the issue he said he wouldn't agree with murdering people but he would sink the ship and throw them some life rafts!
Griffin is supposed to represent us in Europe, his dangerous views make us a laughing stock!
Join UAF to oppose these Nazi's and sink the BNP.
Come along to the national conference in Manchester next Saturday 18th July

Pay Freeze No Way!

I have been busy lately preparing my legal challenge to my union, UNISON, over its refusal to allow me to take up my NEC seat so I have not been able to blog.
But what a fortnight.......
No ID Cards..hooray! its about time our Government listened to the arguments that they are an assault on Civil Liberties, we do not need them and they are waste of money. Liberty have correctly welcomed the decision with a cautionary note.
No Part Privatisation of the Royal Mail....hooray! I don't care what spin the ex spin master Mandelson puts on it about 'the time is not right', it will never be right to privatise such a fundamental service as the 'universal post'.
Nationalisation of the rail franchise 'National Express', hooray! All rail services should be publicly owned, publicly accountable.
But on the downside the assault on all of us and the Public Sector continues with firstly the idea that we should have a retirement age of 70..booo!
Why when we are the 4th richest country in the world?
The answer is obvious, it is possible for every person to access a state pension at 65, don't forget the women who were conned by the 'married woman's allowance' and should be able to retire on a full pension. It would mean taking a bit more from the excessively rich and for both New Labour and the Tories that is a Tax too far.
I have worked in the Public Sector for over 20 years and do not recognise the 'gold plated' pension that is being questioned and discussed as needing 'reforming'. Most public sector workers will have a very poor pension which needs to be propped up by state benefits. We hear from the right wing press that we are 'spoilt' and its not fair on the rest of society.
Listen to this, we pay for it in contributions, we are entitled to it and we will have it!
Stop comparing us to the private sector, private sector workers should also have good pensions instead of the Fat Cats creaming of profits they should pay decent pensions to the workers who created their wealth. Instead of attacking the public sector the focus should be in the shame of the pension robbery that has taken place in the private sector.
This weekend the idea of a public sector pay freeze...what!? This is joke right? Poor pay rises for years then a pay freeze?
It is fundamental wrong, I would be interested if somebody from the right wing press and our Government could put forward a credible argument for this. The story going around is the public sector spending has to be cut in future years.. but why? Because of course we have guaranteed the banks to the tune of £1.3 Trillion, please explain how working class people in both the public and private sector caused this crisis, when we were asked if we should prop up the banks to such a large amount and why we should now pay for it?
I pay tax, I work in the public sector on less than £7 per hour, my bills have not frozen, my pay should not be frozen. I like the rest of the population have been ladened with 'public sector debt' created by private sector risk takers .Now I'm been told I need to pay twice, pay the debt and less pay for me. The answer is no!
I note that the bonus culture in the private sector is back with massive banking salaries and bonuses. Short term gain for the rich and long term pain for the rest.
We need an alliance of all public sector and private sector workers to fight for jobs, decent pay and decent pensions. All public Sector workers should unite against any idea of a pay freeze and worse pensions.

Lindsey Victory

Lindsey workers and their supporters have lit a beacon of hope for other workers by showing the way to defend jobs and terms and conditions.
They refused to be restricted by the anti trade union laws and refused to be bullied into re-applying their jobs by a Total who made £5bn in profits lasts year.
Reports indicate that all the workers sacked have been reinstated and the workers who took solidarity action have immunity from victimisation.
We need more fights like this to give workers confidence that they can win and counter the 'there is nothing we can do' attitude.
The biggest barrier to workers fighting back is lack of confidence and lack of solidarity, these workers had both in bucket loads and have won the day.

UNISON NEC Meeting 19.6.09

After the close of National Delegate Conference each year there is a short NEC meeting to elect the new Presidential Team of 3 NEC members, a President and two Vice Presidents. In effect the current President stands down, another member of the Presidential team is elected to President and a replacement Vice President is elected.
UNISON Members may be aware that I stood for election as the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Male Seat, I was accepted as an eligible candidate, appeared on the ballot paper, received the greatest number of votes and I am currently eligible to hold the seat.
UNISON Rules, Schedule C7 state
‘the person securing the greatest number of votes shall be the person declared elected so long as they are and remain eligible for election’.
Unfortunately UNISON wrote to the Electoral Ballot Services stating I was not eligible and as a result I was withdrawn as a candidate. I was unaware of this until the ballot result was declared and next to my name it says ‘Withdrawn’.
I have made a formal complaint of a breach of UNISON Rules and Statute and will consider taking appropriate legal action if the decision is not reversed.
I believe that I am the legitimately elected NEC member and as a result decided to attend the NEC meeting after Conference.
A paid official approached me as the members of the NEC were gathering and asked why I was there, I answered that I was the legitimately elected NEC member.
Dave Prentis, General Secretary, called the meeting to order and stated they could not continue because I was present. I was asked to leave twice by Dave Prentis and both times I refused stating I was elected and entitled to be there. At that point Dave asked Keith Sonnet, Deputy General Secretary, to make a statement. Keith adjourned the meeting until 8/9th July.
UNISON have posted a report on this on the website.

Support The Lindsey Workers

I have been in Brighton for a few days enjoying UNISON Conference and attempting to take up my NEC Seat, I'll blog my report within the next few days. But while I was down in Brighton a momentous attack on the rights of workers to defend their jobs and organise resistance has taken place with the sacking of 900 workers at the Lindsey Oil Refinery.
Total initially used the sacking of 51 workers as a threat to activists at the site, workers took action to support heir colleagues and have now been sacked with the 'option' of reapplying for their jobs. This is employer code for 'crawl on your belly for a job'.
There are 2.2 million on the dole now and soon there will soon be 3 million out of work. A job goes every 30 seconds. We have just seen British Airways ask their workers to work for nothing.
Supporting these workers has to be central to workers resistance and for every worker to have decent conditions and one rate for the job, no matter where they are from.
Every trade unionist, every workplace has to get behind this fight many workers have begun solidarity action.
The intention of Total to attck the organised workers is indicated by their refusal to attend talks at ACAS.
If you live in the area please make every effort to go to the picket lines, send messages of support as action of solidarity spread workplace collections can help sustain the workers.
There is an organised a protest, demonstration/rally outside the Lindsay site at
Eastfield Road, Immingham, DN 40 3LW from 6.30am onwards on Tuesday 23 June 2009
The GMB are supporting the protest.

UAF Demo Leeds 13th June

I had a great day yesterday in the sun at the Unite Against Fascism Rally outside the Art Gallery in Leeds.
I arrived early to help set it up the focal point, with stalls and banners
There was over 400 people there with one aim, to expose and defeat the Nazi BNP.
Once again the student movement played a signifcant part having mustered at Woodhouse Moor they arrived with over 50 supporters chanting and singing, they were received with cheers.
Some great speakers and plenty of home made placards. One of the most amusing said 'British Eggs for British Nazis' sadly I had left my camera at home so was unable to take any photo's.
Two people turned up dressed in KKK outfits which caused the rally to turn towards them chanting and shouting at them, the police took them away.. After the Demo there was reports that the 2 people were actually anti BNP but had made a mistake in coming dressed up in the KKK outfits.
Towards the end of the Rally a call went up 'we want to march' and over 300 people starting walking along the Headrow waving banners and chanting 'The BNP is a Nazi Party Smash the BNP', 'Black and White Unite and Fight','Nazi Scum of Our Streets'.
I found myself at the front of the Demo holding the UAF banner with friends and comrades. We attempted to turn down Briggate but were prevented by the Police who formed a picket line, we also atempted to go down Vicar Lane but again the Police picketed and Police vans were across the road. Eventually we ended up outside the BBC opposite the Bus Station. At that point we had a few more speakers and then dispersed.
It was a great day but is only the beginning there will be an organising meeting Tues 30th June and I'll post more details as I have them. There are things you can do to join the fight against the fascist BNP both individually and collectively in Schools, Communities and Trade Unions.

Anti BNP Demonstration

Protests around the country have begun against the election of 2 Nazi BNP MEPs.
Today Griffin organised a press conference on the grass outside Parliament. At just a couple of hour's notice UAF managed to assemble a couple of hundred protesters who egged Griffin and forced him to run off protected by his thugs.
At the count in Manchester on Sunday night, Nick Griffin's arrival was greeted by around 200 UAF protestors. Griffin had to make a hasty retreat, protesters egged him as he tried to enter the building. He returned later smuggled into the back.
Yesterday there was a wave of protests across a number of Towns and Cities in the North West and Yorkshire .
These protests were called at less than 24 hours notice. Below are some reports.
Manchester: Over 800 people gathered in the city centre to protest at Griffin 's victory.
Liverpool: Around 250 UAF supporters marched in Liverpool from the Town Hall to the BBC building. There were delegations from the PCS, Unison and the universities. The police tried to stop the march but the protesters won the day.
Sheffield: There was an angry 300 plus protest in the city, the demo was young and angry.
Leeds: At just 4 hours notice over 100 people gathered near the Town Hall in protest at the BNP winning a seat in the Yorkshire region.
